Political groups

In the European Parliament national parties come together to form cross-border political groups. DIE LINKE are part of the United European Left/Nordic Green Left alliance (GUE/NGL, Gauche Unitaire Européenne/Nordic Green Left).

The group contains 52 MPs from 19 political parties and 14 Member States. Members of this faction include SYRIZA from Greece, Podemos and Izquierda Unida from Spain, Bloquo de Esquerda and the Communist Party from Portugal, the Communist Party and the Front de Gauche from France and Sinn Féin from Ireland.

So the range of opinions is much more varied than among political parties in national parliaments. Our faction holds very different opinions on issues such as the transfer of national laws to the EU. But this is not necessarily a bad thing, as it encourages a healthy exchange of ideas. We are united on the fight for fair, peaceful and democratic conditions in the EU and in our rejection of existing policies that favour banks and corporations.
